Profile for Innovative Educators, PIE

Advanced Learning Partnership’s (ALP) customized coaching services incorporate job-embedded training and two-way formative dialogue among educators, their colleagues, and ALP coaches. By integrating teacher voice and reflection on practice from the outset, ALP’s coaching model provides a more complete and personalized picture of each participating educator’s learning goals, experience, interests, and starting point. In addition, most coaching processes provided by ALP are job-embedded and allow teachers to practice new skills in real time with their students.

Need for Metrics that Support Job-Embedded Professional Learning

Given our personalized coaching process, ALP identified a need for a streamlined coaching tool that supports our job-embedded coaching model and integrates various standards for classroom technology integration, personalized learning, and 21st Century Skills. We drew on both our experience in schools and recognized professional standards to develop and validate an interactive and blended coaching tool that offers educators real-time feedback, resources, recommendations, and reporting.  Our professional learning and coaching strategies and processes are succinctly reflected in the Profile for Innovative Educators (PIE) coaching tool.

The standards and educational movements which had the greatest impact on ALP’s development of the Profile for Innovative Educators include ISTE NETS T, Partnership for 21st Century Skills, Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Initiative, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Technology and Engineering Literacy (2014), and Personalized Learning.[1] ALP’s PIE Content Validation Report list standards alignment and development procedures for the following 4 competency domains:

1. Innovation, Creativity, Inspiration;

2. Self-Managed Learning;

3. Research and Digital Literacy;

4. Professional Growth and Leadership.

Versatile Data Collection and Reporting

PIE's underlying metric informs teacher reflections; 360 and peer review of educator professional learning; and aggregate reporting from multiple perspectives (e.g., grade, school, district, etc.). Powered by Qualtrics©, PIE reflections and observations can be completed from any mobile device.
